To my knowledge, wireshark and libpcap's capture mechanism is pretty solid for USB and network captures on 11.10. The bug is most likely in one of your kernel drivers, so I would suggest opening a bug against the kernel with "ubuntu-bug linux". The kernel devs may tell you to send it back to wireshark/libpcap, but I think that is unlikely.
