Just a "ping" on this issue: same error on a fresh install of 10.04 LTS. /var is a separate partition on my system - haven't made any countermeasures aside from reinstalling ureadahead which, notably, had no affect. As the system still boots, I likely will not change its start point and bear with until the next Ubuntu release where, I hope, this issue is resolved...
