I'm sure I've seen a bug report regarding this before, but I've searched
and have been unable to find it, and it has occurred in both Oneiric and
now Precise.
On my laptop, an HP ProBook 6555b, using a Yukon Optima 88E8059, if I do
not have the charger plugged in when I power the machine on, I am unable
to use the wired network port; I have to shut down the machine and plug
AC in before powering it up again.
