I have updated bug description and changed the title so it doesn't tell
computer hangs up (which was previously not determined). Please see
description for bug behaviour in current and upstream kernel.
** Summary changed:
- Laptop wakes from "Suspend to RAM" with low resolution and hangs up
+ Laptop wakes from "Suspend to RAM" with distorted screen
** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
Status: Incomplete => Confirmed
** Description changed:
When I suspend my computer to RAM, on about 1 out of 5 cases, waking it
up results in displaying low screen resolution (seems like 1024x768 -
can't confirm that, proper should be 1440x900) with slightly distorted
background image from my desktop, filling up about 50% of the screen
- horizontally.
+ horizontally. In other words, I only see right half of the screen
+ magnified on top-right section (buttons and icons on panel), and it is
+ all translated to first horizontal half of the screen, leaving the other
+ screen part blank.
- After this, computer does not respond any more and when I press
- Ctrl+Alt+F1, screen goes blank. Sometimes holding Ctrl+Alt+Del leads to
- restart after a couple of seconds, sometimes only holding the Power
- button does shut the PC down.
+ Computer is working and I can normally log in. After that, two solutions
return screen to proper state:
+ 1) selecting "Displays" from the menu right, setting other resolution and
then setting 1440x900 again,
+ 2) pressing Ctrl + Alt + Backspace to restart X - solves the problem only in
upstream kernel, v3.3-RC4-precise. on current kernel (at time of writing
3.0.0-16-generic) this does not solve the bug and screen stays the same.
This is not strictly Ubuntu-related, as same problem was observed at
latest Linux Mint 12 and same laptop.
