This also seems to happen when using VNC as well, so it seems to either be common to VNC and RDP, or protocol-agnostic. The solution is, however, to kill the remmina process - this seems to clear things up.
I've run into this type of bug before with Eclipse, where on a right- click the UI would freeze completely. That's how I learned that killing the culprit is the solution.
