Hi. I'm just a random Ubuntu user who is also a DropBox user. I
intsalled the package from the Ubuntu repo, got the "running from an
unsupported location" message, and found this bug report.

As I read this thread, the Dropbox company position is that it's better
not to have the package in the Ubuntu repo at all than to have the
install result in the present user experience.

Speaking as a user, I agree with Dropbox. If the desired installation
and upgrade behavior can not be managed in a reasonable way based on
Ubuntu's repo policies and security/upgrade expectations, and especially
if an install results in an error message every time you boot up, then
it does more harm than good to have the package in the Ubuntu-managed
repo in the first place.
