There is no windows vs unix style; there is just PC style booting.
Barring an explanation from the manufacturer of what this option does, I
can only chalk this up as a bios bug. My guess is that "other" assumes
a non ACPI aware OS such as DOS, and changes the way the ACPI behaves to
try and deal with that, and something about that change is broken or
triggers a bug.
