Kevin Donnelly, thank you for your comments. Did this issue not occur in
a release prior to Quantal? As well, could you please install Ubuntu
Quantal, fully update, and comment if the WORKAROUND is still required?

Thank you for your understanding.

** Description changed:

  The 12.10 alpha 3 amd+mac iso from
- http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/12.10/alpha-3/ will only boot after
- setting acpi=off.
+ http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/12.10/alpha-3/ will not boot.
+
+ WORKAROUND: Use kernel parameter:
+ acpi=off

At the man+keyboard screen, press any key and accept English, then press
F6, then move to acpi=off and press Space to select it, and Esc. Then
press Return to allow the LiveCD to boot, which takes about 3 minutes.

This is on an iMac 5,1, Core 2 Duo, 3Gb RAM, ATI Radeon.
