This but persists: it is in 12.04 LTS with all current updates applied. There are several problems. The first one is that K3b incorrectly reports the problem. wodim fails with an I/O error, well into burning:
Track 01: 10 of 625 MB written (fifo 100%) [buf 91%] 10.2x. Errno: 5 (Input/output error), write_g1 scsi sendcmd: no error Very clearly this isn't a permission problem. In my case, I was able to figure out that the problem was that on-the- fly collection of files from an external disk was not fast enough to keep the burner running at full speed. A buffer underrun is very bad for burning. I avoided the problem in either of two ways: lowering the burn speed, or preparing an ISO image before burning (just one tick box in K3b's burn screen, but it requires a lot of tempfile space). Summary: K3b must understand wodim's diagnostics better and must report them correctly and accurately to the user. The current K3b diagnostic is highly misleading. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588262 Title: Can't burn ISO images.
