Thanks Dave for your help:

1) Yes, I though that it was very improbable this bug to be from the
kernel. Perhaps  Christopher M. Penalver can clarify why he though it
was.

2) The usb-creator-gtk application wasn't working in Ubuntu 13.04 the
last time I tried to make a live thumb drive, so better to try to
install the system in a USB media by booting a live-CD.

3) I suspect this bug to be Ubuntu specific, related to how the live-CD
is automatically built and configured. But I'm unable to tell which will
be the affected project.
