It looks like they fixed it in 24.0.1 which hasn't been released yet in Ubuntu: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=910848 You can download 24.0.1 here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/ but it has the following error when I try to run it https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=829604#c22
