@vincentthiele Well, I don't think it's going to be because of the
nvidia drivers, I (think) I'm running on Intel graphics (2011 MacBook
Air 11").  I haven't noticed it in a while though, but I've been
avoiding fullscreening applications much more.

I found that switching into another shell (virtual shell 6 for example)
would allow me to force logout, saving a reboot, I think I was killing
gnome with killall gnome, maybe with a wildcard, I've managed to avoid
it for a while, so I can't remember exactly what I used.
