A weird thing happened today on my last reboot of the PC. I installed
unetbootin and gparted through apt-get and some updates may have gotten
installed as well at the same time prior to the reboot. When the desktop
was ready I went to the "sound settings" and suddenly the card was
listed. aplay now shows the card as well. From apt history the only
package I can see that's possibly related would be libaudio2:i386.
