FWIW: same problem, same laptop (Dell M4800 with NVIDIA Corporation GK106GLM [Quadro K2100M] QHD+), nvidia 343.22 (proprietary). Ctrl- Alt-F1 + Ctrl-Alt-F7 workaround restores backlight.
