Re comment #9: didn't work for me w/Scribus 1.50SVN Trunk:

$ env | grep QT
QT_IM_MODULE=ibus
QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=
QT4_IM_MODULE=ibus

$ sudo apt-get remove appmenu-qt5

does work. However I wonder what affect it might have on indicator-
appmenu:

$ apt-cache rdepends appmenu-qt5
appmenu-qt5
Reverse Depends:
  appmenu-qt5:i386
  indicator-appmenu
