Actually I think it is a bug, the 'solution' you describe does not work as with me it 'is' set to the correct color and just as the bug registerer writes it's working fine in GDM, just the part between GDM and Gnome loading it's still the 'human' color. Can someone please have a look at this as it DOES seem to be a bug.
