Any update on this? A lot of people (see also https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1295670) hope for a solution for this. I agree with Jay Mac: "it should be a gconf setting, or better yet, a setting in the Preferences." This "bug" is driving me away from nautilus.
