I have a similar problem with a Compaq C550. The laptop hardlocks at a
somewhat random time after arriving at the gdm login screen (usually
once logged in). This is rather inconclusive, but the problem also seems
to be accelerated by keyboard or touchpad input. Interestingly, if the
laptop is booted in single-user mode (=recovery mode at grub boot
screen) and the X server started by hand ("startx" as root), it never
locks up.This only occurs using the current 2.6.22-14 kernel. When booting Gutsy with the Feisty 2.6.20-15 kernel, the problem does not appear (drm module <-> X server?) Contrary to Petri's fortune, specifying either the "i810" or "intel" server in xorg.conf does not seem to make a difference.
