I get the feeling that it has to do with monitor switch/resolution
switch between sessions.

Example:
I use the work account at the office with 2 lowres screens via a thunderbolt
dock.
When I'm done for the day, I lock the screen and put the computer to sleep.

When I arrive at home, I have some private tasks to do so I open my
laptop without any dock and login on my private account. My laptop is
Dell XPS13 with hires screen. It works fine. When I'm done I lock the
screen and put the computer to sleep.

Back at work: I connect my computer to the dock with the two lowres
screens and I login to the work account. I get the login screen again.
My work session was killed.

TLDR;
Login to session 1 with 2 lowres screens.
Lock screen + sleep
Login to other session 2 with laptop screen (hires).
Lock screen + sleep
Login to session 1 with 2 lowres screens. Crash.
