Just to add. I found many others with the same issue and I finally fixed mine by typing the commands into gedit and running them as programs. Slower but the only effective way I found to get around the letter d not working.
DO NOT UN-COMMENT-OUT: #do not bell on tab-completion #set bell-style none #set bell-style visible By putting the comment #s back in the letter d now works as normal.
