GnomeAppInstall uses a different abstraction for software sources.
furthermore all Ubuntu sources are enabled by default.

I don't know of any site with the corresponding information.

it would be better to show alternatives related to the application. The
problem is the mapping and who does it as mentioned in the above bug
report.

e. if it's application library, go to Synaptic package manager (link).

We could also search in the package list for a matching package. That
seems to be a good idea.

Link to where? what should happen?

Generally I like the idea of providing the user possibilites in the not
found page.
