Using version 2.4.3 in Xubuntu 19.04. Got some success by clearing most of the fields in the CDDB preferences, just leaving the "Automatic Search Servers" to only 1 server:
Host: au.freedb.org (mirror in my country) Port: 80 CGI Path:/~cddb/cddb.cgi Cleared everything else, inc the manual search server..
