Public bug reported:
Impact
======
On the current eoan daily images, the wifi adapter doesn't appear at
all. A bump to binary blob and configuration of the BCM43455 firmware is
required to enable the wifi adapter. A version of linux-firmware-raspi2
with required changes is available in the following PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~waveform/+archive/ubuntu/firmware
Test Case
=========
* Boot the latest eoan daily on a Pi 4
* Run "ip link" and observe that wlan0 is not present in the output
* Install the updated linux-firmware-raspi2 package from the PPA above
* Reboot
* Run "ip link" and observe that wlan0 is now present
* Configure netplan for a wifi access point and ensure the connection works
* Test the same card in earlier Pi versions to ensure their wifi still works
(in particular the 3A+ and 3B+ which use the same adapter as the 4)
Regression Potential
====================
The updated package should only affect platforms with a BCM43455 wifi
adapter. The updated configuration file specifies the
"raspberrypi,4-model-b" compatibility string in its filename and thus
should only be picked up on that platform. It also removes the BCM43430
configuration file as the linux-firmware package now includes an
equivalent Pi 3 specific configuration for that platform (which has been
tested successfully).
The updated package has been tested on a Pi 3, Pi 3B+, and Pi 4
successfully. It hasn't yet been tested on the 3A+ due to an unrelated
boot failure on that platform.
** Affects: linux-firmware-raspi2 (Ubuntu)
