Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
Ubuntu 18.10 reached EOL on July 18, 2019. That closed the door to upgrades from 18.04 LTS, so that was expected (http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2019/07/19/ubuntu-18-10-cosmic-cuttlefish-end- of-life-reached-on-july-18-2019/) Ubuntu 18.04 LTS has two supported & tested upgrade paths, one was to 18.10 (now closed), the other will be to Ubuntu 20.04 (once Ubuntu 20.04.1 has been released). This installation looks like it was caused by a corrupted file system. I notice in the logs Nov 1 09:33:46 ubuntu kernel: [ 357.600900] EXT4-fs error (device sda4): ext4_mb_generate_buddy:744: group 198, block bitmap and bg descriptor inconsistent: 1082 vs 1086 free clusters Nov 1 09:33:46 ubuntu kernel: [ 357.615352] EXT4-fs error (device sda4): ext4_free_inode:348: comm rm: bit already cleared for inode 852480 Nov 1 09:33:46 ubuntu kernel: [ 357.634122] EXT4-fs error (device sda4) in ext4_free_inode:355: Corrupt filesystem Nov 1 09:33:46 ubuntu kernel: [ 357.642348] EXT4-fs error (device sda4) in ext4_free_inode:355: Corrupt filesystem I've marked this bug as incomplete, and suggest you `fsck` (file system check) your partition to fix errors, and try again. If you believe I'm in error please leave a comment as to why, and you can return the status to "New". If you are unfamiliar with `fsck` (or file system checks) please refer to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FilesystemTroubleshooting or for actual help please refer to https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/finding- help/712 ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850908 Title: Upgrade from 18.04 to 18.10 didn't work, neither the upgrade to 19.10. Created a new usb drive with 19.10. It detects that there is a 19.10, but was not able to reinstall To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1850908/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
