the above workaround works on a single user system without a problem. I
am on a multiuser system so it doesn't work as it should. I've come up
with another workaround that still involves pmount and the executable
file from above.
1. change the contents of "desktopStorageIcons.sh"
FROM -> "pumount /media/cdrom &"
TO -> "pumount /dev/scd0 || pmount -r /dev/scd0 && pumount /dev/scd0 &"
NOTE: /dev/scd0 should point to your cd/dvd device
2. edit fstab and change the cd/dvd option "user" to "users".
I hope this helps someone
