Just a thought though. :) Yes, unfortunately bind9 9.18.1 has several problems with dig/host and upstream is still addressing everything. For example, the build you will find in the PPA above contains patches to fix the problem you've reported, but you can still make dig crash if you something like: $ dig google.com +nssearch +tcp I'm following upstream's progress closely, but I'm afraid it will take a little bit of time until we can solve everything.
