The same problem here... Using LG 20" screen L204WS resolution 1680 x 1050 @60 Hz, Intel GMA 900 Integrated graphics and I only see 46% X 55 % off the desktop when chose that setting, so instead I use the setting 1280 x 1024 @75Hz and then get the wrong aspect ratio. The screen gets 28% to wide (but still the whole desktop is visible, so it's at least better)
