This just started to happen to me too with the updates of 8th or 9th of february. The current wrong resolution after booting is 1900 x 1200 for both the login screen and the desktop. My monitor is a 21" CRT, for which 4:3 is the right aspect ratio. I normally use a resolution of 1400 x 1050 or 1600 x 1200, depending on what I do. The driver I use is NV.
BTW, the resolution of the login screen also used to be correct in my system. At least when I used the Nvidia driver for a while ago, the resolution was the same for the login screen and the desktop.
