The two above fixes by Reinhard and Sergey work great, and I can
definitely verify this bug as it's still in Hardy even, using Prboom
2.4.7+dfsg-2.  It would be really neat if some nice solution to the
Linux midi sound situation could be found.  So far I've never seen
hardware midi working correctly out of the box, it always needs
elaborate tweaking and such.  I'm sure it's low priority, since there's
not a lot of midi around now days, but it'd be neat if Pulse Audio could
offer midi playback for any applications that wanted it.  No clue how
difficult that would be though or practical.  Midi soundfont banks are
fairly sizable...freepats weighs in at 29 MBs.  Any way, that might be
one permanent fix...

The other would be to fix prboom from crashing due to a lack of a midi
sound server. :)

Or just stop using midi in programs, tho I'm weird and I like midi. :P
