This would indicate a transient issue on the mit mirror. have you tried
changing servers in system>administration>software sources?
I have checked the MIT mirror and it works correctly for me at this end
using software sources/update manager and apt-get. everything is working
correctly so I am going to convert this into a question, if you continue
to have problems please respond to the question and someone will help
you get it sorted out.
