@Zverinas, it's not all_generic_ide=1, it's all_generic_ide only.

Another update to this issue, if I may. I had another customer this morning
with a 530N system upgraded from 7.10 to 8.04.1 LTS which wouldn't fully
boot after the upgrade.

Changing the BIOS setting of Integrated Peripherials -> SATA mode to RAID
also works and is a bit simpler to assist with on the phone. Follow these
steps:

1. While turning on the computer press F2 at the splash screen to enter
Setup (BIOS)
2. Select Integrated Peripherals
3. Go to 'SATA Mode', press Enter
4. Change to RAID, accept the change
5. Press F10 to save & reboot
