Hi,

 While still doing some desktop tasks this week, here's what happened on
 the mobile side of things for me:

 * Finished building my local environment (pbuilder build, lpia chroot),
   but was proven to be quite useless as it's not easy to reproduce the
   config and it doesn't reflect the real device; using a fset's chroot
   works better; the real device is what everybody uses
 * Updated hildon-desktop per action plan
   - Panic attack when the dead line approached (friday evening) with
     nobody around to unstuck me, but turns out merging Intel's tree
     wasn't as easy as Bob or me initially though; we need to discuss
     better code sharing and usage of launchpad
   - End result is quite borken as I couldn't test it (I could test
     build it fine), and will need debugging with the real device which
     I just received; a couple of persons confirmed that the current
     hildon-desktop in bzr is broken, and I shall really fix this ASAP
 * Long exchanges with Bob on the ways we work; I should start
   discussion on these on the ML to get everybody's opinion on how we
   will handle source code / delta over long periods (topic branches
   etc.)
 * Got a Samsung Q1 Ultra yesterday  \o/
   - Took copious notes on the Vista issues I saw: it really suck, and I
     really don't bash it because it's Microsoft; we should aim at not
     making the same mistakes, but it looks like this Vista is almost
     not tweaked and the setup and login screen were catastrophic
   - Installed UME; would be nice to be able to install without copying
     to USB key, perhaps I should setup netboot instead or something
     close (suggestions welcome)
   - I should update instructions for new comers, especially packagers
     oriented, and fix the existing one as time permits
 * Reported some bugs
 * Weekly meetings
 * General feeling: I am making progress in understanding who's exactly
   working on what or reponsible for what and I'm seeing a bit better
   what needs to be done (a lot of work/fun ahead!)

 Please find my notes on the Vista setup and the Q1U hw attached; I hope
 some don't sound too stupid, but I know that I wont remember the
 initial feelings if I don't note them down verbatim.

   Bye,

Awkward setup:
  * Initial beep and black screen on boot for 5 seconds before anything
    appears; what's happening?
  * Pointer wasn't properly calibrated with screen and I didn't have the option
    to fix this in the setup
  * When I selected the French language, the place and time didn't switch to
    French, the language of the installer didn't switch either; only the
    keyboard was set to French when I picked France as a location
  * Could skip configuration of a location if the device has a GPS?
  * Fan turned on more and more often during the setup
  * Setup took very long and was impractical (and in English)
  * Awful amount of time to "complete the installation" after all questions
    were answered
  * Black screen with no info whatsoever for some minutes after installation;
    just the pointer
  * Yet another long install step after the first login: "Preparing your
    desktop"; had to enter the password with the mouse still not calibrated
  * Wifi enabled for nothing during setup: eats battery, risks intrusion?
  * "Samsung Recovery Solution II" showed a dialog on first login that another
    reboot will happen to complete the settings
  * Calibration icon / widget appeared on the left of the screen while the
    recovery was still happening and flickered awfully: should I click it?
    That was actually a widget to show the virtual keyboard...
  * "Your computer is not fully protected" popup appeared in the taskbar:
    another thing I can't do anything about while the install completes
  * When hard disk activity stopped, I didn't know whether I should wait more,
    press ok, or press the blinking keyboard widget; hitting ok rebooted the
    device: third boot
  * Boot still takes a while with no progress feedback
  * Mouse has a weird aspect ration, seems stretched horizontally
  * "Purchase Point Backup" starts; visibly a Samsung solution part of
    "Recovery Solution II"; initial estimation > 40 mns. Speed of 4.8 MB/s is
    quite slow and there are 9.5 GB to copy... In the end, speed was a bit
    higher and it took some 29 mn; have to press ok again, didn't work with
    stylus
  * After the final boot, my password was rejected; yeah! Probably the non
    calibrated pointer... Important disk activity in the background, no idea
    why... On password failure, an initial "Welcome" is displayed near the
    password entry field while the password failure is displayed way below
  * There's a screensaver on the login screen, probably a good idea
  * Wifi is turned on on login screen
  * Inserting an empty SD card on the login screen makes some HD activity, but
    nothing is displayed; when trying to reset the password, it's indicated that
    the disk isn't a password reset disk, but this should have been set before
    I went to seek a SD disk to reset the password...
  * There's an a11y screen reader from the login screen; it's reading text very
    fast; loops forever on all widgets
  * The "power operations" button on the login screen has a very small tab to
    display the menu; if you miss it, your device shuts down immediately, it's
    too small
  * > 30 s to reach login screen; doesn't seem to continue loading in the
    background or very little; after a while there's some disk activity in the
    background
  * Resuming from hibernation is quite fast (< 10 s)
  * Shutting down takes > 25 s

Hardware:
  * Left mouse handle couldn't move in diagonals or was hard
  * Stylus? icon isn't very clear, nor the switch button on top of the left
    mouse handle
  * Many buttons, arrows, keys: which ones should I use? Why have a touch
    screen if I have so many keys / pointer controls?
  * Two USB ports, one less accessible, might be a problem for people with
    screen + mouse as separate devices
  * A logo near the stereo mic inputs, but not near the webcam?
  * What's UDF? VOL-, VOL+ and MENU don't look like buttons
  * What's the Q1 Ultra button for? => it's not a button
  * Is that a reset button near "hold"? What if I press it accidentally?
    Doesn't seem to reset the device, but seems to be one way to wake it up
    from sleep, just like "power"; also wakes it up from hibernation
  * What's the red "M" icon in the status tray?
  * I wont run Vista, I don't want the Vista logo!
  * Red paint in the battery unlocked position of the latch isn't very clear
  * There's a SECOND camera at the back?
  * About 21 MB/s on the SATA disk; would be quite slow for a laptop but
    relatively good for such a device

Misc:
  * Tested xrandr based mirroring
  * Tested DPMS support; screensaver properly sets DPMS off
