Hi folks,
We're nearing our release date and while hardy is now released, some
stable updates are still possible in some cases. The more we get in
hardy updates in the next month, the merrier as it will help
tremenduously for security support and the like.
Please prepare SRU bugs and uploads as explained at:
<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates>
but only if the fix warrants a SRU as outlined on this page.
This morning, during 8.04.1 planning on #ubuntu-meeting with the
platform and desktop teams, we discussed the possibility to update
packages for bug fixes and trivial mobile changes which would not
otherwise warrant a SRU if (and only if) they are pending a SRU update
for another bug. So for example if we'd like to update claws-mail to
merge a small mobile fix which isn't a SRU candidate in itself, but
another SRU for the main version has been prepared, we can jump on this
train. The rationale is that people will have to test the package in
-proposed anyway.
To track this, subscribe to hardy-changes and you should get emails
for packages accepted in -proposed (I don't think anything else goes in
hardy directly anymore, or you can filter on the target release).
Concerning main promotions, these are unlikely to happen but a couple
might happen *if* we also have a stable update (new version) of this
package -- it's too risky otherwise. For example, I'd really like to
move mobile-basic-flash to xul 1.9 and promote it for security support.
Final note, don't forget that ultimately we want bugs to be fixed in
intrepid!
Have fun,
