I didn't have time to test again last time I was near the computer I first
noticed this problem on, but I get the same issue on my laptop webserver
(running the i386 version instead of x64, and without ssl enabled but otherwise
an identical fresh install with no configuration changes except what I
mentioned in the original report).
The issue affects firefox but not konqueror or google chrome.
I have no trouble with firefox logging into my router's admin page, which also
uses basic http authentication, so it's looking like this problem requires both
firefox and the apache's basic authentication module in order to show up
(possibly even restricted to firefox 24.0 - I don't have another version of
firefox handy).
The attachment contains the logs, cleared before testing on the 3 browsers.
