Ray, thanks for the response. The version of plymouth we have is '0.8.8-0ubuntu8'. I realize that doesn't mean much, but you can check it out explicitly with 'bzr branch lp:ubuntu/trusty/plymouth'
It does have the 'add_consoles_from_file' method.
