I'm sure he'll find a reason to dump xfce in a month or so for Fluxbox/Openbox. Funny thing is, all he really needs is a terminal to run git and other command line stuff, macroEmacs and a Browser, so what diff does it make?
I personally am perfectly content using Unity with Gnome2 as all I really care about is a Web Browser(Currentely Chrome), EmacsGTK, and a Terminal. All else is just eye candy.
