Kony radio tapes selling big in Gulu
By Irene Nabwire in Gulu
The tapes of alleged LRA rebel chief’s speech are selling like hot cake in Gulu municipality.
A tape is going for Shs 10,000.
For the first time in 16 years, Joseph Kony rang government officials on Mega FM in Gulu town and expressed his feelings about the insurgency. They were on a live talk show of Mega FM.
Sources said that a few residents who managed to record the entire speech of Joseph Kony made quick money shortly after the talk show.
Kony said that he has appointed his peace team to talk to government agents. But added he would not talk to Local Council chairmen. He, however, did not name the persons on his peace team.
Meanwhile, Gulu LC V chairman Lt. Col. Walter Ochora has called upon government to respond properly to Kony’s call for peace talk.
Ochora said Kony’s speech should be critically studied and an appropriate answer given.
He said it could turn out to be the beginning of another future for the turbulent war-ravaged Acholi sub-region.
Kony said that he was the one who initiated the 1994 peace talks with Betty Bigombe, then minister for Northern Uganda. He called upon government to be committed to the peace process.
