Witch doctor uses cock to identify dead bodies

With just a few hours left to bury in a mass grave the remains of the people who perished in the Valentines Day accident at Najjembe along the Kampala –Jinja highway, a traditional doctor has used a cock to identify the bodies of his tribesmen.

At least 15 passengers, including those of Gisu descent were burnt beyond recognition in an accident in which 42 people died on 14th February 2004 when a fuel tanker collided with a mini bus and burst into flames.

The victims are expected to be buried today at 4pm local time in a mass grave at Lugazi Town council in Mukono district about 35 Kms east of Kampala city.

However a number of Bagisu tribesmen have objected to burying their colleagues in mass grave on spir itual and traditional grounds.

Early this afternoon, a group of Bagisu accompanied by a witchdoctor stormed Kawolo hospital mortuary to claim two bodies of their colleagues.

Hospital staff and residents were stunned when the witch doctor entered the mortuary and immediately pulled out a cock from his bag and issued with instructions to identify the two bodies in question.

According to eyewitnesses the witchdoctor called out the ancestral spirits loud as the cock inspected all the charred bodies. After a few minutes the cock believed to have been spiritually powered pecked the two wanted bodies.

The two bodies are of 16 year old Mariam Budala and a man only identified as Mukwasi both of Budadiri Village in Mbale district

The wonder-cock reportedly died shortly after performing the spiritually powered exercise.
Parliament on Tuesday expressed its condolence and called for stringent road disciplinary measures.

Buikwe West MP J anet Nantume was concerned that government has up to now failed to claim bodies of the two soldiers who died in the accident.

She also demanded that government improves the pathetic condition of Kawolo Hospital because its ever overwhelmed by accident victims of the Kampala-Jinja Highway.

Over 42 people were killed in the accident when a fuel tanker from Kenya rammed into a Suzuki and later went up in flames. A coaster bus and Prado were also involved in the accident.

19 years after the NRA/M  Revolutionary rule and we are still using these "primitive" methods?

What happened to the fundamental change? Happened only in Rwakitura?
