KAMPALA — An international human rights NGO has said homosexuality should be globally regarded as a normal. The International Humanists Ethical Union (IHEU) youth wing said all people should be given freedom to enter into any sexual relationship as long as they do not impinge on other people’s freedom.

IHEU officials, based in Belgium, are currently in Uganda for a conference aimed at promoting human rights. Uganda is the first African country to be visited by the organisation.

The NGO’s secretary general, Mr Yemi Johnson, said: “Let us take homosexuality as a normal practice? Why should we only value heterosexual type of relationship, who feels offended by homosexuality,?”

This was during a press conference, May 24, at Star Restaurant on Workers’ House. Yemi, a Nigerian, said his remarks followed complaints by some Ugandan homosexuals during a workshop held last week at the Aga Khan Primary School that they are despised — which hinders free interaction amongst themselves.
