Hi list members,

is there any news or effort on installing vista or server 2008 with
unattended?

I found this link to be a good push in the right direction:
http://sysadminman.net/blog/archives/8

to bad its depending on a windows-env to setup and configure all the
needed files.

The method described will result in a Vista background beeing displayed
with a shellbox (something like cmd, a prompt). From there setup needs
to be started somehow, and the dvdroot needs to be mounted somewhere...

But how to get there when using only Linux?
It requires the Windows Automated Installation Kit, an ISO file that can
be easily mounted so no problem on that part.

=Problem #1
How to get the Windows AIK files extracted from the file(s) inside the
ISO to access the pxe boot files?

=Problem #2
next step would be mounting the winpe.wim file but that can't be done in
linux? Is there a linux alternative to imagex?

=Problem #3
bcdedit..... Perhaps this could be replaced by grub?

The peimg tool is used to copy extra drivers on to the .wim file but
that sounds like a rather exotic copy/paste action. Some Perl/Bash could
be used to accomplish the same. Shouldn't pose a big problem.
Also, the unattended-gui project appears to be able to 'install'
vista/08 but it looks like they are using dd and netcat to simply ghost
a pre-installed disk image and that is not wanted.

These are just some quick thoughts but perhaps some one can shed some
more light on the subject.
