#48: Regression (in 4.9rc4: drivers depending on 'mii' module (rhine, e100) fail

A while ago I had issues with a via rhine based nic which used the mii
module, just couldn't get network going. DHCP failed, I could assign a
static address but networking didn't seem to function anyway. Today I ran
into the same issue with a intel based machine with an e100 nic. Both
machines perform the PXE boot without issues, but networking in Linux is
broken.
I went back to the 4.8 bzImage and initrd with the e100 nic, and all works
without issues. I don't have the via based machine available at the
moment, so I can't test whether that one works with the 4.8 kernel and
initrd right now, but I assume the same applies there.
