You can use a self-written config.pl.

There you can implement a user-defined menu where you can select the 
type of computer etc.

(My favorite computer hard- and software dealer www.b-c-s.de are 
doing that - maybe I can ask them to share their script and I put 
parts of it to the example page in our documentation)


My preferred way is to use a database. Please have a look at sample-
config.pl in the /install/site directory. Jeffrey C Albo posted a 
documentation for that a couple days ago on the devel-list.[*]

With a database you are not answering ANY question ... nice, isn't 
it?
