I've stopped using the linuxboot iso, and building them also, in favor of using debian live to make the iso and netboot images. I haven't used it in quite a while, but I posted the configuration to this list a few months ago. The image I make doesn't use the patched dosemu, but rather the nt5x-install script. I like that script better than the dosemu approach.
I mention this because you are using debian, so this might be an easier solution.
