No, I have the same problem: in my notes, I have:
$ find <driverPackDir> -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
$ find <driverPackDir> -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;
By the way, did you generate a cache file for your drivers ?
It provides a significant increase of driver search speed:
$ cd <driverPackDir>
$ /path/to/unattended/dosbin/search-win-drivers.pl -g . >
./search-win-drivers.cache
(The cache file has to be regenerated each time you modify anything in the
corresponding folder).
