Did you try the linux boot-cd?

Subject: [Unattended] e1000 w/ Asus P4C800E-Deluxe, hangs during floppy
boot?
I am trying to run unattended on a Asus P4C800E-Deluxe that has the Intel
e1000 NIC onboard. It will load the driver fine, and grab and IP and report
the MAC fine, but when it comes time for fdisk to preformat the drive, it
will hand. I have create a new batch of floppies w/ the same result. It will
report an invalid op code and exit out, or simply hand when trying to access
the partition info.
