Subject: [UCNeighbors] another recent violent attack and a warning
A friend who lives on the 4500 block of Kingsessing Avenue asked me
to post this for her.
"My friend was mugged walking through the park last Thursday night
at about 9 p.m. He was leaving my house at 45th and Kingsessing and
walking to the trolley. He used to live at 43rd and Pine, so he's
familiar with the area. Rather than walking to the 11/36 stop, he
decided to cut through the park for a walk.
A 5 ft 10 African American male approached him, pulled out a knife,
and threatened to stab him if he made any noise. Shane immediately
handed over the cash in his wallet and three credit cards
(thankfully two were expired). As the guy ran away, his accomplice,
who was standing behind Shane the whole time, punched Shane in the
back near the shoulder blade, knocking him to the ground.
I used to think "oh, it's not that dark out" or "it's just a quick
shortcut through the park." Now, I'm being much more cautious. I
have the phone numbers for the UCD escorts programmed in my phone. I
don't wear my headphones when I'm walking home after work.
