I don't have strong feelings one way or the other about the schools closing (I found the magnet/special admissions public schools to do more for my children than Catholic school did), but they've really screwed over the kids who are now too late for the public school application process for next year and may not have any option other than their assigned neighborhood school. If this decision had been made in October, or even early November rather than in January, there would have been more options available to families who now have to find schools for their children. Cynically, I suspect this will make them more likely to look for a transfer to one of the remaining Catholic schools.
