It's a lot more clear to compare the difference between:
<bean-el:message key="${someObj.someProp.someString}"/>
and
<bean:message key="<%=
request.getAttribute("someObj").getSomeProp().getSomeString()%>"/>
Especially considering the following scenarios that "just work" in EL:
-- What if "someObj" may be in more than one scope?
-- What if there *is* no 'someObj'?
-- What if someProp is null?
