Would you agree that UML is faster than hypervisor solutions?

Thanks

Hi Brendan;

A hypervisor is a program that emulates a computer's hardware,
allowing an unmodified 'guest' OS to run within it. UML in contrast
is a modification of the guest OS kernel to allow it to run as a
user-space process.

KVM (http://kvm.qumranet.com/kvmwiki) is a Free linux-based
hypervisor, and can run linux or windows (and I presume any other x86
OS), whereas UML can only run, well, linux. The price of this
flexibility is speed; UML is much faster than any other virtualisation
solution I've tried.

 Hi All

 Just wondering would UML be considered Hypervisor? If not what exactly is a
Hypervisor then?

 Thanks
