Hi :) Sorry chap! I was thinking that you could get the cursor beside the image in a page and then press Ctrl Enter or from the menus do Insert - errr, Slide (surely that should be "page" as in Writer rather than slide as in Impress?)
When the cursor is beside a whole-page image it is not the tiny small thing it usually is but instead takes up the whole vertical height of the image. I'm actually coming around to thinking that you might have had the best method after all!
